A list of 36 councillor candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming municipal elections in Haryana has been officially announced for March 2. On 12 March, the vote counting will take place. It comes after the party named its mayoral candidate, a move that is a major component of its election strategy.
Internal dissatisfaction, though, has arisen from the selection of BJP candidates. There were senior BJP leaders, including councillors, who had helped the party and were given tickets. The discontent within party ranks includes some leaders who have voiced their concerns that they were being overlooked, having experience and being loyal to the party.
The Congress party is meanwhile set to announce its candidates in the day. Sources in the party had said that Congress had deliberately decided to wait till the BJP came out with its full list prior to announcing its own list. The move indicates that Congress is carefully scrutinizing BJP’s choice of candidates before their own.
Some of them are from the new crop of faces in the BJP, and some are from prominent local leaders. The party has given tickets to candidates across various wards, of which Sunder Singh is a candidate from Ward 1, Jyotsna Vipin Yadav from Ward 2, Pawan Yadav from Ward 3, Sandeep Yadav from Ward 4 and Rakesh Rana from Ward 5. Other important candidates include Ekta Tyagi (Ward 6), Mukesh Kaushik (Ward 7) and Naresh Kataria (Ward 8).
Some well-known names from different wards, like Kuldeep Yadav (Ward 11), Seema Thakran (Ward 12), Pawan Saini (Ward 13), Pratham Vashisht (Ward 14) and Vikram Jeet (Ward 16), have also been included. It goes on with Amit Raj Singh (Ward 19), Narayan Bhadana (Ward 20) and Vijay Parmar Rajput of Ward 32.
Both BJP and Congress are readying themselves for an electoral battle, with the upcoming days having intense political activity as the parties enter the final stages of preparation for the upcoming Haryana MC elections.
