Ahmedabad: The AES-related death toll in Gujarat has been 48 for the past thirty days, and out of these, the most possibly infective virus is believed to be the CHPV. Those government officials in the state health department identified 127 AES casualties, out of which 39 were positive for the Chandipura virus. The areas most affected are Sabarkantha and Pachmahal, with six reported cases; Arvalli and Kheda, with three cases each; Mehsana, with four; Ahmedabad city, with three; and Dahod, with two cases.

The first reports on the event came on July 17, when after the Chandipura virus killed a man from Gujarat. At least 14 people succumbed to death in Sabarkantha district; among them, a four-year-old child, Moti Kantharia of Aravali of Saurashtra region, died in a government hospital. The disease caused by the Chandipura virus is mostly common in children below the age of fifteen years and has recently raised more health and general concerns.

Acute encephalitis syndrome, which leads to inflammation of the brain, has been known for its causation by many pathogens, such as the Chandipura virus. It is a virus in the Rhabdoviridae family. It causes neurological manifestations characterized by high fever, severe headache, myalgias in severe form changes in the level of consciousness, seizures, coma, and death.

Gujarat Battles AES

Currently, 54 patients received in-patient care; 26 patients have been discharged earlier. The Chandipura virus prevails mainly in regions of India where sand flies, proven to be vectors, are common. Disease onset and treatment should be done immediately, mainly due to the rapid movement of the virus.

As a result, the health officials of Gujarat state activated rapid response talented teams and increased the sentinel surveillance along with the affected regions. These include fumigation and spraying insecticides in about 497000 homes, 19380 schools, and more than 21300 Anganwadis. Also, surveillance of the households promoting the spread of the virus and preventing the increase of the outbreak has been extended to more than 41,000 households.
