Brief tension was seen in Pachegaon village in Beed district of Maharashtra as a green flag was hoisted along with the saffron flag at the Kanifnath temple. As the festival of Gudi Padwa and yatra at the temple, which falls within the dates of Eid, was being celebrated, the incident took place on Monday.

Police officials say when they realized that the green flag was preferable, some chose to put it up at the temple along with the customary saffron flag. The timing of the incident and the religious significance of both flags made this an embarrassing action in the village, which triggered a sense of unease. However, the flags were seen as potentially provocative in the village, and there was heightened tension between the two communities who reside there.

This prompted local authorities, headed by the Georai police, to swiftly react. The police had talked to the people of both communities to defuse the tension. Both the saffron and the green flags were hauled down from the temple talks, and the situation was brought under control without any further incident.

No formal complaint or case has been filed, and the police have confirmed this. It was tense for a minute or two, but officials say law enforcement responded promptly to restore order in the village. They stated that there were no other issues since the flags were removed.

Though the incident ended peacefully, it underscores that certain issues are hypersensitive on the question of religious symbols and practices, above all, during festivals and community celebrations. Authorities said communities should exercise continued vigilance and work together for regional harmony, noting the need for dialogue and respect among them.
