President Droupadi Murmu has majorly reshuffled 3 gubernatorial posts through the appointment of new Governors to Goa, Haryana, and the Union Territory of Ladakh. The communication was in the form of an official government order, which was published on Monday, July 14.

The former Cabinet Minister of the Union as Civil Aviation, Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, was appointed as the Goa Governor. Raju is an experienced politician and an elderly leader of Andhra Pradesh with years of experience in the field of administration and legislation. The appointment is a return to the limelight after a lapse in his high-profile publicity after a tenure in the Union Cabinet.

Professor Ashim Kumar Ghosh has been appointed as the Governor of Haryana in another important position. As an academic with a glorious career in higher education and research, Ghosh is likely to bring an academic policy to the governance within the state.

In the meantime, Kavinder Gupta, the previous Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has been assigned as the new Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. Gupta, a senior BJP leader, will replace Brigadier B.D. Mishra (Retired), who has resigned as Ladakh LG and whose resignation has been accepted by the President formally.

It is stipulated in the government order that the new appointments will take effect as the respective appointees take over their respective offices. The reshuffle is being interpreted as an exercise to add new vigor and direction to the governance of the respective states and union territories.

All these appointments are taking place when the central government is still focusing on efficient administrative governance and regional development, particularly in such strategic and border regions as Ladakh. It is believed that the new leadership will help define the system of governance within the different regions that they are to lead.
