On Saturday, five people were arrested after the office of an investor, Sushil Kedia, in Worli area of Mumbai was allegedly vandalised because of his post on social media that questioned Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray over the matter of speaking Marathi. The police said the group did not enter the office of Kedia in the morning but threw stones at it and shouted slogans in favour of the Marathi language and the MNS chief.

The event occurs as a repercussion of a controversial X (then Twitter) post by Sushil Kedia, where the latter notes that he had been residing in Mumbai for more than 30 years without knowing the Marathi language, which he now declines to learn. Raj Thackeray was the specific target in the post, with the Kedia vowing never to learn the language as long as his leaders like Thackeray were entitled to play the false love-of-the-Marathi-Manus card.

The post written by Kedia was a response to a fresh event that had occurred in Bhayander, Thane, whereby the workers of MNS allegedly beat up a stall owner after he failed to speak Marathi. This evoked bitter responses among party supporters, and this led to the so-called attack on the office of Kedia.

But a few hours later, after the vandalism act, Kedia went up to express an apology during a public appearance and said that he made the remarks when he was in a state of stress and duress. To this end, he said that his post was being misunderstood and was being exploited politically. It is the wrong attitude in which my tweet was made, and now it is being made to do what it did, he added.

In his retraction, Kedia hailed Raj Thackeray, calling the strong leader a person who brings about significant issues on board and had always sent a feeling of appreciation and gratitude to the MNS chief. He further said that he was a great admirer of Thackeray, and he was sorry about what he said earlier, and that it was a moment of anger.
