A major fire was reported on Monday morning in the coaches of two standing trains in the yard of Tirupati Railway Station in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India, which caused panic, and an immediate emergency response was observed. The two trains that were affected by the fire, Hisar Express and Rayalaseema Express, were parked in the yard yesterday when fire, all of a sudden, erupted into two coaches of each of the trains.

Railway authorities revealed that the fire was detected early enough, and fire brigade teams were rushed to the site. Various firefighter units rushed and commenced operations to restrain and put out the fire. However, luckily, nobody was killed or injured, and the trains were not occupied during the incident.

By thinking on their feet and reacting co-ordinately, the Tirupati railway staff succeeded in uncoupling the unaffected coaches of both trains, effectively preventing the fire from reaching further and resulting in more destruction.

It is not yet known what caused the fire, and it is under investigation. Officials have added that new checks will be made to find out whether it was ignited by any electrical faults, mechanical problems or an external source.

This accident is the second in the recent past related to railways and was on a day earlier in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, when a goods train, which was transporting diesel, caught fire. That fire destroyed a number of railway activities in the area. Overhead electric power line was closed as a precautionary measure, and several times there have been delays and cancellations, particularly at Dr MGR Chennai Central Station.

After these events, the Southern Railway has encouraged passengers to have access to official sources of information to find the latest news on train timetable delays.

The government has also promised that all the security measures are under evaluation and shall ensure that the tragedy does not happen again.
