National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah on Saturday blamed the continuing delay by the Centre on restoring the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir as a matter of deep frustration. Referring to party workers in Kokernag, Anantnag, the veteran leader said that his party would move the Supreme Court in case the central government stalls the process.

Following the elections, citizens thought that their problems would be solved quickly. But lack of statehood is a big challenge, according to Abdullah. To the appeals of people to have a local face in the government, he further added, “They want our local MLA Altaf Kaloo to be a minister, but how can it be possible without having a state government?”

Abdullah stressed that the National Conference has waited long enough, but that they would have to take the matter to court in case of more delays. We are waiting, but in case the Centre is too slow, there is no other alternative option than approaching the Supreme Court, he reiterated. He further gave hope of the restoration of all the powers when the statehood is restored.

Abdullah made a remark on the rising tension between Israel and Iran, and he advised both sides to use restraint. I pray to God to give wisdom to Israel, Iran, and even Donald Trump so that they could decide to preserve peace rather than war. According to him, no conflict may be abandoned without dialogue and understanding.

The statement given by Farooq Abdullah signifies the increasing discontent among the regional leaders about the prolonged central dictation of Jammu and Kashmir and the willingness of his party to seek legal avenues as the way ahead towards granting political rights to the people.
