Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday sounded a stern warning of discipline on the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who were reported to have entered into post-poll alliances with the Congress and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in local bodies.
In an interview with the media, Fadnavis made it clear that the BJP ideology could not allow any associations with the Congress and the AIMIM at any cost. The BJP will never make an alliance with the Congress or the AIMIM. This will not be accepted on any basis and will be totally intolerable to such arrangements in response to trends in the post-civic elections.
The Chief Minister was reacting to Ambernath reports where the local BJP leaders declared a coalition with the Congress to occupy the leadership of the municipal council. Fadnavis stated that the party leadership had already given a strict directive to stop such arrangements and those found guilty of the same would be dealt with severely.
In case any local leaders of BJP have entered into alliance with such parties without consulting the party, then this is a grave breach of party discipline. There will be a strict action taken against those involved, he added.
The BJP had earlier in the day entered into post-poll alliance with the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party led by Ajit Pawar under the banner of the Ambernath Vikas Aghadi to give nomination to the Ambernath Municipal Council leadership and by doing so to virtually marginalise its ally, the Shiv Sena. Another example is that a similar coalition was created in the Akot Municipal Council in the Akola district, between the BJP and AIMIM.
The turn of events has caused an apprehension in the state leadership of the party that has once again reiterated that anything that is contrary to the political postulation of the BJP will be met with repercussions. Fadnavis pointed out that local compulsions can never override the core principles and alliances that are acceptable to the party.
