Tragedy struck when two separate fire incidents occurred at fireworks facilities in Rangapalayam and Kichanayakanpatti villages located in the Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu. Local authorities have confirmed that eleven individuals lost their lives while two others sustained injuries.
In response to these events, a collaborative effort was immediately initiated involving law enforcement personnel, firefighters, and members of the community. They worked relentlessly to extinguish the fires and rescue any victims trapped in the infernos.
Among the victims, seven charred bodies were recovered from the explosion at the fireworks facility in Rangapalayam. Authorities are currently working on identifying them with indications suggesting they might have been workers at the facility. Tragically three individuals who were initially rescued later succumbed to their injuries.
In another heart-wrenching incident at a fireworks unit in Kichanayakanpatti village, a man named Vembu (35) lost his life. Additionally, two female workers who were rescued from this accident were promptly admitted to Srivilliputtur Government Hospital for care.
The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin, expressed condolences for those who lost their lives in these accidents. He also declared a compensation of Rs 300,000 for the families of each victim and Rs 100,000 for those who suffered severe injuries. These steps aim to offer aid and help to the affected families in this challenging period.
