A security forces’ operation against terrorists was reported in the Nagmarg area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Tuesday.
The operation was carried out once officials received intelligence of the existence of the terrorists in the region. Suspicious activity was noticed during a combined operations Cordon and Search Operation of the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police. As it was always the case when they are pressed on the neck, the terrorists began firing in every direction before security forces looming on them retaliated. Currently, two to three terrorists are expected to be present in the area, and the ongoing operation has not been effectively concluded, according to the latest news.
The release from the 15 Corps of the Srinagar-based Indian Army said, “On 12 Nov 24, following a specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists, a Joint Operation was launched today by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the general area of Nagmarg, Bandipora. Any movement looked or seemed as suspicious, and the terrorists let loose and fired shots at anyone who dared question them. Our troops successfully responded, and the operation is still ongoing.”
This comes a day after a junior commissioner officer (JCO), Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar, was reported dead on Sunday in a fierce gun battle with terrorists in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. Kumar who had been with the Army’s 2 Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) was a resident Barnog village of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. Survivors include his wife and children, and his 90-year-old mother.
The region has experienced increased violence this year, 16 security men, 10 civilians, and three VDGs have been killed in various terror attacks across the Jammu region. In Jammu and Kashmir alone; nine security forces personnel and fifteen civilians have died in terrorist operations. Security forces have though improved their operations with 24 terrorists eliminated in the Valley during the same period.
