Heavy Rain in Delhi: The Yamuna has taken a terrible form in Delhi. The water level of the Yamuna was recorded at 206.76 meters at 6 am on Wednesday, which is above the danger mark. The continuously rising water level has caused concern among the residents of the capital.

According to the Meteorological Department, due to continuous rain, the river water has now reached the roads, markets, and houses. The department has issued an alert predicting heavy rain for the next three days. There is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning. The residents of the capital have been requested not to go to the riverbank and follow the guidelines of the administration.

Due to continuous heavy rains, Delhi has recorded more than 1000 mm of rainfall this monsoon. The average annual rainfall figure of the capital is only 774 mm, which was already crossed this year. According to the Meteorological Department, till August 31, Delhi had received 963.4 mm of rain. After this, 37.8 mm of rain was recorded on September 1 and an additional 16 mm till Tuesday evening, taking the total rainfall to above 1000 mm.

Due to the continuous rise in the water level of the Yamuna, the Loha Pul near the Yamuna has been closed for security reasons. The Delhi government said that this step of stopping movement on the bridge has been taken for the safety of the people. The bridge has been closed for the general public since last night. According to the Meteorological Department and the administration, the water level of the Yamuna has currently reached 206.65 meters, which is above the danger mark.

Due to the rising water level of Yamuna, Nigambodh Ghat has completely submerged in water. The water has risen above the steps of the ghat, affecting this cultural and religious heritage of Delhi. Local people say that they have not seen such a scene in decades. The administration and disaster management team are keeping an eye on the situation.

Alarm bell on the old Yamuna bridge

Delhi’s historic old Yamuna bridge is now under flood threat. The administration has restricted movement on this bridge in view of the fast flow and high water level of the river. Yamuna water has entered many houses in the trans-Yamuna area. The streets are flooded and people are busy saving their belongings. It is also becoming difficult to take children and the elderly to safe places. Local residents say that flood situation arises every year, but this time the situation is out of control.

Waterlogging scene in Monastery Market

The capital’s Monastery Market, which is usually bustling with shoppers, is now submerged in a deluge of water. Heavy water flow can be seen on the roads and most of the shops are closed. Shopkeepers fear heavy losses to their business and goods. The administration is monitoring the situation and relief work is likely to be accelerated if needed.
