New Delhi: On Wednesday morning, the air quality further deteriorated and slipped into 400 at multiple locations. As dense smog engulfs the region, the Air Quality Index (AQI) is exceeding 400 in most areas of the capital, which is considered extremely hazardous to health.

Of the 39 active AQI monitoring centers in the state, 38 have issued a red alert, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded between 300 and 500. A thick blanket of pollution has enveloped the entire city, making it difficult to breathe in the capital’s atmosphere.

At 9 am, the Anand Vihar monitoring station recorded an AQI of 423, while Bawana stood at 445, Rohini at 431, and Punjabi Bagh at 425, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed. 

Neighbouring regions also reported hazardous levels: Greater Noida recorded 450, Noida 410, and Ghaziabad 435. Faridabad and Gurugram logged comparatively lower readings of 234 and 288, respectively.

Air pollution in Delhi is affecting children, the elderly, and those with serious respiratory illnesses the most. According to the SAMEER app, Bawana recorded the highest AQI of 444 at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, while Lodhi Road recorded the lowest AQI of 327 in the capital.

Earlier on Tuesday, Central Pollution Control Board shared a post on X stating the harmful impacts of stubble burning.
