New Delhi: Due to the non-implementation of Delhi’s new electric vehicle policy, the validity of the existing vehicle policy has expired again on June 30. With this, new electric vehicles registered in Delhi from July 1 will no longer get the benefit of subsidy.
More than 11 percent of the total new vehicles registered in Delhi are electric vehicles. Among these, the number of two-wheelers is the highest.
The current e-vehicle policy of the Delhi government expired on 8 August 2023. Since then, it has been extended 4 times. The last extension was for 3 months from March to 30 June 2024. Now 30 June has passed, but the new e-vehicle policy has not been implemented again. According to a senior government official, the current vehicle policy can be extended, but cabinet approval is necessary due to the implementation of financial transactions. Currently, due to the unavailability of the Chief Minister, extension cannot be given without cabinet approval.
This time, till June 30, a total of more than 3.33 lakh new vehicles have been registered in Delhi, out of which 38 thousand 338 vehicles are electric. Out of the 47 thousand vehicles registered in June itself, 3992 are electric. Under the e-vehicle policy, the government gives a maximum subsidy of Rs 10,000 on two-wheelers at the rate of Rs 5000 per kilowatt (battery capacity). Similarly, a subsidy of Rs 30,000 is available on e-rickshaws and e-autos. The maximum subsidy on 4-wheelers was Rs 30,000, which was earlier applicable only on 1 thousand vehicles.
