New Delhi: More than 400 flights were delayed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday due to a technical fault in the Air Traffic Control system, Flightradar24 data showed. Data from Flightradar24 shows an average delay of 44 minutes for arriving flights and 48 minutes for departing flights.

The disruption is attributed to a major malfunction in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), an essential component of the ATC network, which supports flight planning and crucial data exchange between airports and air traffic controllers. While the core issue originated in Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), the cascading effect has brought the flight schedules of major carriers, including IndiGo and Air India, to a standstill across the country.

The airlines have said there are delays in their flights at the Delhi airport due to issues with the air traffic control system. Indigo, in its latest advisory, requested passengers to arrive a little earlier than usual for their flights.

“We understand that the ongoing AMSS system issue affecting Air Traffic Control has led to delays and disruptions to travel plans, and we fully understand the inconvenience this may be causing to our customers and their loved ones,” the airline said in a post on X.

“While the authorities work to restore full system functionality, our priority is to support you with timely updates and assistance across all airport touchpoints. Our teams remain available and are doing their utmost to ensure your journey remains as smooth as possible,” it added.
