New Delhi: Cold wave conditions continued to grip northern India on Sunday as Delhi residents woke up to a chilly morning, with the minimum temperature falling to 4.8 degrees Celsius. Moderate fog covered the region, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Visibility at the Indira Gandhi International Airport dropped to 50 meters on Sunday morning, improving to 100 meters a few hours later, disrupting normal life in Delhi and the surrounding areas. According to the Meteorological Department, today will be a very cold day for the entire NCR, and caution is essential. While the overall air quality index (AQI) improved to the ‘poor’ category, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport issued an advisory for passengers.

The morning dawned with dense fog across Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Noida, including the entire NCR. Visibility dropped to near zero in many areas, directly impacting traffic. Vehicles were seen snaking along the Delhi-Meerut and Yamuna Expressways. Dozens of flights were delayed at airports, and many trains were running hours behind schedule.

The cold began to take hold in Delhi-NCR on Saturday and Sunday night. Fog descended on many areas in the evening, and dense fog persisted into the morning. With the onset of the cold wave, temperatures have steadily dropped. Over the past four days, the minimum temperature has dropped by nearly four degrees. The Meteorological Department has classified it as an “extremely cold day.”
