The level of security in Uttam Nagar and the surrounding neighborhoods has also been tightened well ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr due to the order given by the Delhi High Court to provide proper security measures in sensitive areas. The action is against the backdrop of recent local communal tensions in the region of which a 26 year old man was killed in violent conflicts on March 4, which was also part of the celebrations of Holi.

Observing the case at hand, the court sent the Delhi Police a notice, which asked them to provide a comprehensive answer of the actions they are taking to ensure law and order. The police have complied with this by implementing a comprehensive security plan of the Uttam Nagar and some of the adjoining Dwarka district.

The police have used heightened surveillance and presence especially in and around mosques and places of high density besides intensifying foot patrols to ensure that there is visible security presence. The regions surrounding the Uttam Nagar East metro station are closely kept, and barricades and other staff are deployed to control the population and avoid any unwarranted situations.

According to senior police officials, contingency plans have been put in much detail to allow the police to be able to respond promptly to any situation that arises. There are also multi-layered security arrangements implemented such as picket points and strategic post due to the positions of forces.

The increased vigilance is intended to help see the celebrations of Eid take place without any issues, as well as to reassure the residents in the midst of the existing tensions. The police have also urged the citizens to be peaceful and collaborate with the authorities to ensure that peace prevails in the region.
