New Delhi: Dense cloud cover today has raised hopes of a cooler spell. Light rainfall is expected in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Greater Noida, with maximum temperatures, currently between 35°C and 36°C, likely to fall to around 32°C.

This month has not felt like September at all. The capital recorded a maximum temperature of 37.5°C on Monday, while Sunday was even hotter at 38.1°C, the highest for the month in the past two years. The last time Delhi experienced such heat in September was back in 2023, when the mercury hit 38.6°C.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday upgraded its warning from ‘yellow’ to ‘orange,’ indicating moderate rainfall, lightning, thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching upto 40 kmph, for the next few hours.

In view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s possible visit to the Durga Puja pandal at CR Park’s Kali Mandir on Maha Ashtami on Tuesday, to participate in the ongoing festivities, the Delhi Traffic Police has warned of heavy traffic across several parts of the city.

“Due to heavy footfall in Durga Puja Pandals in CR Park traffic will be heavy on Outer Ring Road, from Panchsheel to Greater Kailash, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, JB Tito Marg, Inder Mohan Bhardwaj Marg and CR Park Main Road…” an advisory said.
