Rain showers struck different areas of Delhi on Saturday morning to give residents temporary relief from summer temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that the day will stay wet as different areas of the national capital should expect light rain followed by moderate precipitation. Local disturbances from thunderstorms accompanied by lightning will occur while the expected rainfall delivers necessary moisture reduction to the air.
According to the IMD, Delhi experienced rainfall reaching 0.8 millimeters between the times of 8:30 am on Friday to 8:30 am on Saturday. The upcoming day will experience an anticipated high temperature of 34 degrees Celsius, which creates more comfortable conditions when compared to the weeks earlier when temperatures soared.
Delhi experienced an important weather phenomenon on the day that followed Thursday. Recent history showed the city experienced a remarkable amount of rainfall during that specific May day. The official weather station in Delhi measured 77 mm of rain between 2:30 am and 8:30 am through the Safdarjung observatory. The heavy afternoon downpour became one of the top two 24-hour rainfall occurrences for May in the history maintained since 1901 by IMD in Delhi.
Many citizens found comfort in the unexpected rainfall, although it caused water accumulation and transportation delays on city roads during peak morning hours. Specialists at the weather station explained that the abnormal precipitation stems from both western disturbances and cyclonic circulation that targeted the northern plains.
The IMD actively follows the current weather patterns and emphasizes the importance of resident alertness, especially when thunderstorms and lightning occur. The authorities request residents to create appropriate travel schedules and select other routes instead of water-affected routes during these conditions.
