Delhi: The preliminary investigation report of the massive fire that broke out recently in a four-story building in Palam’s Ram Chowk Market has been released. According to reports from the fire department and the Forensic Science Lab (FSL), a large amount of flammable material was present in the basement and other floors of the building, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. The report also states that the fire blocked the building’s only entrance and exit, trapping nine members of the Kashyap family and resulting in their deaths.
According to police sources, the building was storing clothing, as well as thinner, perfume, and other highly flammable chemicals (nail polish). These substances caused the fire to spread rapidly throughout the building. Fire department officials stated that the accident was the result of negligence of safety regulations and improper storage of flammable materials. Rescue operations began as soon as the fire broke out in the building, but due to the rapidly spreading fire and blocked access routes, many people were unable to reach safety in time.
Violation of safety standards in the basement
According to police and fire department sources, the FSL team took samples from the scene and conducted tests, which confirmed that chemicals were the cause of the fire. The report also revealed that safety standards were not followed in the basement, which contributed to the dangerous spread of the fire. A senior fire department official stated that if such flammable materials had not been stored in the building, the fire could have been brought under control more quickly. The fire blocked the building’s only entrance and exit, resulting in the death of nine members of the Kashyap family.
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Delhi government of the Palam fire incident. Delhi State Convener Saurabh Bhardwaj stated that the investigation was handed over to the SDM, but the report has not yet been made public. He demanded that the report be released and the truth be revealed. Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged that government ministers are blaming the victims, while serious negligence was observed in the relief work at the site. He said that the claim of the street being narrow is false and that not enough fire engines had reached the spot. He demanded that the government investigate the CCTV footage, saying that this would clarify the actual situation.
