On Friday morning, bad weather delayed more than 100 flights at Delhi airport, while the schedules of many additional flights were disrupted due to zero visibility in the nation’s capital.

According to an official, over 100 flights experienced delays, but no diversions were required during this time. “While landings and takeoffs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) said in a post on X at 6:35 am.

Even in low visibility conditions, aircraft can operate because of the CAT III infrastructure. Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), which handles over 1,300 aircraft movements daily, is operated by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL).

Several areas of Delhi-NCR were covered with dense fog, which reduced visibility and affected train and aviation operations. Weather-related delays caused at least 24 trains leaving Delhi to be delayed. The India Meteorological Department reports that at 5:30 am on Friday, the temperature in Delhi was 9.6 degrees Celsius. Among those affected trains, the Gorakhdham Express was more than two hours late, the Bihar Kranti Express and the Shram Shakti Express were more than three hours late, and the Ayodhya Express was four hours late.
