Punjab farmers plan to march to Delhi this week to press their demand for MSP talks. In response, police have deployed barriers and advised individuals to avoid traveling on Noida-bound transport due to the current attacks in Delhi. The first set of protesters that have taken the street today is the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP), beginning their relay protest from the Maha Maya flyover in Noida today at noon.
The march affected traffic flow on the targeted roads to Delhi, with some pictures depicting long lines of vehicles. Passengers have been advised to factor this into their arrangements for getting around since there will likely be more disruptions in the week ahead.
The farmers are branding themselves under the key umbrella organizations of non-government and non-political organisations called Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the government-recognized Kisan Mazdoor Morcha(KMM). They have been demonstrating at the interstate border line of Punjab and Haryana at Shambhu and Khanauri for the past 19 days after being ‘restrained’ from moving ahead to Delhi. Their requirement is mainly focused on a minimum MSP for their crops and other agricultural issues.
The protest demonstrations will further escalate from December 6 when more farmers are expected to participate in the agitation. The march is expected to take place from 9: 00 AM to 5: 00 PM, and the protesting farmers will be sleeping on the roads at night. This persistent demonstration shows how much effort farmers are ready to make to be heard and have their concerns considered by the government.
Continuing to create unrest, it brings out the fact that Indian agriculture is still a very troubled sector. Law enforcement agencies are closely observing the situation to guarantee that the demonstrations are not violent and that interferences with citizens’ lives are kept to a minimum while recognizing the right to public assembly of the farmers.
