New Delhi: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said on Tuesday that it has busted a clandestine meth lab that relates to the Mexican cartel group, the Cartel De Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG).
A laboratory said to have been run by Indians was found in the industrial city of Gautam Budh Nagar close to Delhi. Security agencies of NCB have arrested four people, including a chemist from Mumbai and a warden of Tihar Jail, involved in the functioning of the laboratory.
At the moment, the agency is tracking a Mexican national linked with the cartel who lived in Delhi and whose task was to check the purity of drugs manufactured.
The operation was launched following leaked information on the emergence of a clandestine factory in the NCR for the production of synthetic drugs, including methamphetamine, for local and export markets, NCB Deputy Director General Gyaneshwar Singh.
In exercising its authority on 25th October 2024, the NCB officials raided a factory in Kasana Industrial Area, Gautam Budh Nagar, seizing around 95 kilograms of methamphetamine residue in solid and liquid forms as well as various chemicals, including acetone, sodium hydroxide, methylene chloride, ethanol, toluene, red phosphorus and ethyl acetate. There is also equipment that was imported for use in the manufacturing processes, and it was discovered during the raid.
The Delhi Police’s Special Cell assisted in the raid because the drug network had links to various places in the NCR area. Singh pointed out that the West Delhi businessman and the warden of Tihar jail were present in the lab during the raid and played key roles in setting up the illicit site and arranging the chemicals to produce methamphetamine, besides arranging the machinery as well.
Earlier, the businessman had an arrest warrant issued by the Department of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in connection to narcotics case, and they were introduced when both of them were in Tihar jail and then joined hands.
