New Delhi: Delhi continued to reel in fog and cold wave conditions on Tuesday as the Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in the ‘poor’ category for a second consecutive day. Amid the inclement weather, some airlines issued advisories, warning that flights could be delayed and asked passengers to stay updated.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there could be a gradual fall in minimum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius across northwest India for the next four days, and in central and eastern parts for the next two days. In a tweet on X, it informed that Dense to Very Dense Fog alert across large parts of the country until the morning hours of 6th January.

Very Dense Fog Expected In: East Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab Dense Fog Likely In: Assam & Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, West Bengal & Sikkim, and West Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘poor’ category during the morning hours on Tuesday (January 6, 2026), with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 293, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board’s Sameer app.

Station-wise data showed that Chandni Chowk recorded the worst air quality at 352 in the ‘very poor’ category. While 20 stations logged ‘very poor’ air quality, 15 stations were in the ‘poor’ category and two stations recorded ‘moderate’ air quality.
