Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has petitioned the court to remove a police officer accused of mishandling individuals outside the courtroom. The court has instructed the authorities to retain CCTV footage for scrutiny regarding the alleged misconduct. Concurrently, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has censured Sunita Kejriwal, Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, following her address to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members and Delhi residents, wherein she read her husband’s statement.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja addressed Kejriwal’s plea during Friday’s hearing, acknowledging the allegation of unnecessary harshness and mishandling against Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) AK Singh. The plea highlighted a prior complaint against the same officer during the production of co-accused Manish Sisodia. Kejriwal advocated for the officer’s removal from duty.
The judge directed the preservation of CCTV footage and its presentation in court for review. ACP AK Singh reportedly displayed inappropriate behaviour while restricting access to the courtroom on Friday. Sunita Kejriwal released a video quoting her husband’s letter, expressing her determination to serve the nation despite his incarceration. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari rebuked her actions, citing broken promises and alleged corruption.
Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest on Thursday night, connected to a money laundering inquiry linked to the liquor policy case, prompted his remand to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) until March 28. The developments underscore the escalating tension between the AAP and BJP, with legal and political repercussions shaping the discourse.
The unfolding events highlight a broader narrative of governance challenges and political dynamics in Delhi, drawing attention to accountability, judicial integrity, and ethical conduct in public office. As the legal proceedings progress and political confrontations intensify, the implications for governance and public perception remain significant, shaping the contours of the political landscape in the national capital and beyond.
