New Delhi: A Delhi court on Saturday ordered to send to judicial custody of Kejriwal till July 12 in connection with corruption charges in the alleged violation of the 2021-22 excise policy. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), India’s premier investigating agency, arrested Kejriwal on June 26 and detained them for three days.
Kejriwal was arrested at the time when he was under judicial remand in another monetary offences case related to the excise policy scam concerning the ED.
Subsequently, arguing for Kejriwal before the court on Saturday, Senior Advocate Vikram Chaudhary pointed out that the probe started in 2022. “Kejriwal was arrested on march 2024 and was released on bail by supreme court Further, in the previous hearing the CBI official informed that the agency had collected evidences in January and obtained sanctions in April while they refrained from arresting Kejriwal fearing violation of Supreme Court order,” Chaudhary presented before the court.
Chaudhary prayed before the court to order the CBI to place in the court all documents that is relevant to the petition. “They have said publicly and to the Supreme Court that they will wrap up the probe by July 3, I would like the court to ensure accountability,” he further said.
Four charge sheets have been filed by the CBI against 17 accused, Manish Sisodia and BRS leader K Kavita. None of these charge sheets name Kejriwal. Some of the alleged practices include shifting ₹44. ₹ 45 crore out of ₹100 crore was allegedly given as bribes by various companies through hawala dealers for AAP’s poll-related activities in Goa from June 2021 to January 2022.
