Following a concession in the excise policy matter, the previous Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stepped up the political attack against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi to issue fresh elections in the national capital. Kejriwal challenged the BJP to put its popularity to test in the ballot box and told the party that in the event of getting over 10 seats in the state of Delhi, he would quit politics.

In a press conference, Kejriwal said the move by the court was a historic verdict and has been grateful to those who supported him and his party throughout the court fight. He argued that the court has effectively dismissed the case as lacking an underlying basis and indictable, the case was politically inclined.

Kejriwal said that Prime Minister Modi and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, had conspired against him and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). We are kattar imandaar (we are firm honest), said he, and insisted that the case was part of a larger conspiracy to damage his party in the run up to elections.

Besides attacking the BJP concerning the legal case, Kejriwal criticized the party ruling as well stating that he has brought the state of Delhi to a state of chaos. He also used the example of worsening pollution, the degrading status of Yamuna river and damaged roads as signs of administrative failure.

The BJP has yet to come up with a response that would be detailed to the new challenge made by Kejriwal, yet the statements are an indication of a heated up political rhetoric that is to be witnessed before the next election in the capital.
