The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting a thunderstorm with rainfall in the national capital, Delhi, on Thursday. This comes as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Interim Budget before Parliament on February 1 in Delhi.
Despite the bone-chilling winter prevailing in the region, unexpected rain coupled with thunderstorms has hit Delhi for the second consecutive day. The heavy downpour, which commenced on Wednesday morning, has led to road blockages and waterlogging, exacerbating the challenges faced by the residents of Delhi amid the harsh winter conditions.
The IMD has identified specific areas in Delhi that are expected to experience thunderstorms and rainfall in the next two hours. These areas include Narela, Alipur, Vivek Vihar, Jafarpur, Najafgarh, Palam, Safdarjung, Lodhi Road, Mahrauli, Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, and more.
The continuous heavy downpour has resulted in blocked roads and waterlogging, compounding the difficulties for Delhi’s residents, who are already grappling with the severe winter conditions.
According to the IMD’s Wednesday prediction, the weather in Delhi is expected to remain unchanged on Thursday. “One patch is moving across Delhi and is currently delivering light to moderate rainfall at a few places, accompanied by moderate to intense thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds,” stated the IMD.
As the nation’s capital grapples with these weather challenges, the timing is noteworthy, given the impending presentation of the Interim Budget. The unexpected weather conditions may add an extra layer of complexity to the daily lives of Delhi’s inhabitants, potentially impacting transportation, infrastructure, and overall well-being. Authorities and residents alike are advised to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions in light of the forecasted thunderstorm and rainfall.
