New Delhi: The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received over 300 calls reporting fire-related incidents on Diwali, though no life-threatening cases were reported, an official said on Friday.
Speaking to the media, Delhi Fire Services Director Atul Garg said that between midnight and 6 am, approximately 158 fire-related incidents cases were reported. “There were no major calls but we received many. From 5pm yesterday until midnight, around 192 calls were logged, and between midnight till 6am around 158 more were reported. From 5pm to 5am, in just 12 hours the 300 mark was crossed,” he further added.
Regarding a fire on a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus, the DFS Director said that there was a call made and the officials were told that a man was carrying potash in a DTC bus, in which a blast took place.
Meanwhile, a major accident took place in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The husband died due to a gas cylinder blast. While the wife is said to be seriously injured. The husband’s hand fell several meters away due to the explosion in the gas cylinder. The moped was blown to pieces. The happiness of Diwali turned into mourning.
Several incidents of fire were reported in various districts of Haryana on the occasion of Diwali festival, causing loss of property worth lakhs of rupees. Although there was no loss of life in these incidents, the loss of property caused financial setback to many businessmen and home owners.
A fire broke out in a briefcase suitcase warehouse in Insar Bazaar located at Samvidhan Chowk in Panipat on Friday morning, in which goods worth lakhs of rupees kept in the warehouse were burnt to ashes. The fire brigade team reached on time and controlled the fire within 20 minutes, which prevented the fire from spreading. There was no loss of life in the incident reported.
