New Delhi: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Delhi-NCR. The water level of Yamuna river reached 205.90 meters at 12 noon on Tuesday, which has crossed the danger mark of 205.33 meters of the old railway bridge. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the iron bridge to take stock of the situation and talked to the local people. Due to heavy rains in Delhi and surrounding areas on Monday and continuous release of large amount of water from Hathinikund Barrage in Haryana, Yamuna has swelled. The government has issued a warning to the people living in low-lying areas to vacate their houses and has informed about making necessary arrangements for the affected people.
Due to the rising water level of Yamuna, Yamuna Bazaar, Monastery Market, Old Usmanpur Village and Burari Khadar were flooded on Tuesday morning. Seeing the impact of the situation, local people started evacuating their homes. After Monday’s rain in Gurugram, several kilometers long traffic jams were also seen due to waterlogging on the roads. Normal life was also affected in Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad due to continuous rain and waterlogging.
Amid the rising water level of Yamuna river in Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met people in the affected areas and took stock of the situation. She said that the situation is under control and the water released from Hathinikund Barrage is expected to reach Delhi by evening. The CM said that the Yamuna water is flowing in the right direction and the administration has made all necessary arrangements for the residents.
She said, “The flow of water is only in the plains of Yamuna. All arrangements are being made for the stay, food, water and security of the people. We will not let any difficulty come.” She also contacted the neighboring states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Haryana and assured that all possible help will be provided if needed. The CM said that the government and the public will face this crisis together.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta posted on social media platform ‘X’ and informed that she visited Geeta Colony flyover area and took stock of Yamuna’s water level and flood affected areas. She talked to the families who were shifted to safer places and got to know about their condition and assured them that the government is standing with them at all times.
The CM said that all necessary arrangements including accommodation, food, water and medicine have already been made for the affected people. She informed that in the last 6 months, extensive work has been done on de-silting of drains and Yamuna, which is now yielding great benefits. Rekha Gupta stressed that the government is constantly monitoring the water level and all necessary steps are being taken in time so that the public remains safe and does not have to worry under any circumstances.
