Union Minister and senior BJP leader Hardeep Singh Puri compared Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal, to Rabri Devi, the wife of former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav. Hardeep Puri hinted that Sunita could succeed her husband, similar to Rabri Devi’s succession in Bihar.
Puri made these remarks while speaking to reporters after attending the inauguration ceremony of the Delhi BJP’s election office, alongside Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva and Bansuri Swaraj. He criticized Delhi’s CM for forming an alliance with the “most corrupt party,” highlighting the irony given AAP’s anti-corruption origins with activist Anna Hazare.
The BJP leader questioned why only Sunita Kejriwal was coming out in support of Arvind Kejriwal and not the people of Delhi, alluding to the legal issues faced by the Delhi CM. Puri mentioned that Kejriwal had been issued nine summons but did not respond, suggesting that his time in office may be limited.
Additionally, BJP leader Manoj Tiwari criticized AAP, questioning whether holding press conferences could absolve criminal behavior. He echoed Puri’s sentiments, wondering why only Sunita was publicly supporting Kejriwal.
Earlier, Union Minister Anurag Thakur had also hinted at Sunita following a similar path as Rabri Devi, suggesting that she might become the CM by assuming a more prominent role following her husband’s arrest. Thakur compared Sunita’s actions after Kejriwal’s arrest to Rabri Devi’s gradual rise to the post of Bihar CM when Lalu Yadav was arrested in the fodder scam.
The comparison between Sunita Kejriwal and Rabri Devi underscores the political dynamics in Delhi and the BJP’s efforts to portray AAP in a negative light.
