Some of the major cities of India such as Delhi, Mumbai and Guwahati recorded heavy fog in the morning of Monday, leading to serious interference of air travels in the nation. The low visibility due to fog experienced during the initial hours resulted in delays and re-scheduling of several flights especially the flights at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in the national capital.

In the Delhi airport, there was interference in the functioning when clouds caused difficulties in taking off and landing, a frustrating experience to the passengers at the time of the day when most people were on their way to different destinations. Also, besides low visibility, air quality in the capital was an issue. According to the data published by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the level of Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was 256 by 9 am, which indicates that the air is classified as Poor. The worsening air quality contributed to the misery of commuters and travellers even more.

At the same time, IndiGo Airlines also declared a travel warning in Leh, where the poor weather situation caused a temporary halt in air travel. The airline reported that the snow in the area had brought the entire arrival and departure activities to a standstill with flight schedules and passenger flow suffering.

In its advisory, IndiGo indicated that the snowfall continued in Leh, and therefore, the flight activities were halted until the weather improved and the authorities gave clearance. The airline warned that the travelers were likely to suffer long wait time both in-flight and in the airport. In order to reduce the number of delays once the operations have resumed, IndiGo observed that the boarding processes could be carried out in advance.

To accept the inconvenience caused, the airline promised its passengers that its ground and cabin crew was working hard to keep the travellers as comfortable as possible in the process of waiting. IndiGo has also added that the airline is constantly checking weather conditions and would revert to operation as soon as it is safe to do so.
