New Delhi: Five men have been caught for assault and firing in the air outside a cafe with a brawl in Satya Niketan, south-west Delhi, that started on Sunday evening. In the words of a police officer, the cause of the fight was that the owner of the cafe demanded one of the guests stop putting his buttocks on the glass table.
SP Rohit Meena Deo of southwest police said that the five men were identified as Ahmed, Aurangzeb, Atul, Javed, and Adil from Jahangirpuri. According to available details, one of the accused, named Javed, has six criminal cases filed against him. Police have also taken the suspects’ illegal guns and Thar SUV they used in getting to the scene.
The police called at 8:48 PM to report the incident that happened at the cafe. Officers arrived on the scene and interviewed Karan, an employee of the establishment who gave an account of events that led up to the shooting. He said that a team of men was in the restaurant at about 8:30 PM for dinner, and one of them decided to sit at the glass table. This was not well received by the owner, Rohit, who disagreed, and the two had to argue. It got worse when more men came inside the cafe, and the men engaged in a scuffle. However, this was the time that one of the suspects pulled a trigger and fired a shot in the air outside the cafe.
Police, probing into the incident, came to know that they had come to the spot from Jahangirpuri to celebrate a birthday. It was equally positive that the police intervened very quickly and thus prevented the situation from getting worse; the suspects were apprehended without much trouble. The police are still trying to merge the case to see whether the arrested persons will be charged with other allegations.
