A terror alert has reportedly been sounded for Delhi over the threat of attack plans by Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) targeting religious places, particularly a temple near Red Fort, to “avenge” a recent blast in Islamabad.
A string of explosive device recoveries in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir has coincided with a fresh terror alert for Delhi, prompting security agencies to tighten vigil across the national capital. Though officials have not officially linked the incidents, the discovery of IEDs outside Delhi and intelligence warnings of a possible strike inside the city have significantly raised threat perceptions.
A suspicious bag was found near the Rayya police post in Amritsar, Punjab, on Friday, which was confirmed to contain an IED. According to the police, as soon as the bag was suspected, the bomb disposal squad was immediately called to the spot. After the investigation, the team confirmed that the bag contained an IED. SSP Sohail Qasim Mir said, “A suspicious bag was seen near the police post. The bomb disposal squad was immediately called. After the investigation, they declared it to be an IED
Security inputs suggest that operatives linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba may be exploring potential targets in Delhi, including religious sites in Chandni Chowk and areas around the Red Fort. The alert reportedly highlights the possibility of improvised explosive devices being planted in crowded or symbolically significant locations.
