At least eight people have been killed and several others injured after an explosion was reported near Red Fort. Following this, a high alert has been sounded in Delhi. Around seven fire tenders were immediately pressed into action for relief work.
Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort, where the explosion occurred, is located directly opposite the pedestrian stretch of Chandni Chowk.
Describing the situation in the market, one of the person said: “All shops are now closed. The streets are jam-packed, and there’s panic among shoppers. People are rushing to leave…there’s a long queue outside the market’s parking area as everyone is trying to get to their cars and exit as quickly as possible.”
