New Delhi: An important initiative has been taken to tackle the problem of pollution in Delhi. Mist spray will be used on the pillars of the central verge located on the major roads of the capital ,
the main purpose of which is to improve air quality and reduce pollution. The Environment Department has issued the necessary orders to implement this system, due to which this system will soon be implemented in the whole of Delhi.
In the mist spray system, water droplets are sprayed in the air, which makes the dust particles fall down. This process improves the air quality and reduces the pollution level. This system will be operational throughout the year, except for the four months of monsoon. Anil Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary, Environment Department, said that Delhi faces pollution throughout the year, but this problem becomes more severe in winter.
Supreme Court is also concerned about Delhi’s pollution
The Supreme Court has expressed its deep concern over the air pollution in Delhi. The court has advised the state government and other concerned agencies to spray water to reduce pollution. Along with this, 13 such hot spots have also been identified in Delhi, where the amount of PM 10 and PM 2.5 particles is found to be high. Air pollution has become a serious problem due to the abundance of vehicles, construction work, road dust and other polluting elements at these places.
Mist spray system under pilot project
Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) had installed mist spray systems in some areas under a pilot project, which has yielded positive results. Now a plan has been made to implement this project on a wide scale. Along with this, water sprinklers and anti-smog guns are also being used for pollution control.
The environment department has directed all the concerned agencies like PWD, MCD, DDA and NDMC to install mist spray systems on pillars on the central verge of roads. Initially, the system will be implemented at pollution hot spots, and the remaining areas will be implemented within the next fifteen days. However, the system will not be effective during monsoon (June 15 to October 1), but will be functional at other times of the year. Apart from this, the agencies will have to submit a report on the progress of the scheme to the department every three months.
Keeping in mind the increasing problem of pollution in Delhi, this move is a positive initiative, which is not only important for the health of the city’s residents but will also contribute in protecting the environment.
