The Supreme Court has affirmed the High Court’s ruling to stop toll collection on the DND Flyway, providing relief to the citizens of Delhi-Noida. In 2016, the Allahabad High Court ruled that DND should be toll-free.

The Supreme Court said in its order that the Allahabad High Court acted right by canceling the DND toll agreement. The court said that NTBCL was given the contract without issuing a public tender. The Supreme Court termed the decision as completely arbitrary and wrong and also said that it is unfair to give the contract to private company NTBCL to collect tolls from vehicles running on the Delhi-Noida DND Flyway. Noida Authority was also involved in this case.

Know The Entire Situation

The construction of the Delhi-Noida Direct 9.2 km flyway connecting Noida to Delhi started in 1997. The work of this flyway, which was built at a cost of Rs 407 crore, was completed in 2001. Since then this flyway has become a lifeline. In 2012, cases of illegal collection of toll started coming to light, and the petition in this case was filed in Allahabad High Court on 16 November 2012. In 2016, the Allahabad High Court made it toll free. The court said that toll worth Rs 2000 crore has been collected so far. As per the terms of the agreement, the company will always continue to collect tolls from the public, which seems completely wrong.
