New Delhi: Amidst the severe cold in Delhi-NCR, the weather suddenly took a turn on Friday morning. Light rain was recorded in most areas of NCR from Gurugram to Noida. As per the Regional Meteorological Centre (Delhi), light rainfall is expected in Preet Vihar, ITO, India Gate, RK Puram, Defence Colony, Akshardham, Safdarjung and Lodhi Road.
For the past several days, people of Delhi-NCR were facing the double whammy of severe cold and increasing pollution. While the rain on Friday morning has increased the possibility of relief from pollution, there are also chances of further increase in cold. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rain is likely in the capital Delhi, surrounding cities and some parts of Haryana and Rajasthan within the next two hours. The department has also issued a warning of further drop in temperature.
According to the weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday, severe cold is expected to persist in Delhi-NCR for the next three days. On January 10, the minimum temperature is expected to be between 6 to 8 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is expected to be between 16 to 18 degrees Celsius.
During this period, the sky will generally remain clear, but there is a possibility of fog in the morning. On January 11 and 12, the minimum temperature is expected to be 5 to 7 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is expected to be 15 to 17 degrees Celsius. On both these days too, the sky will remain clear and there is a warning of fog in the morning.
The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 318 at 6:05 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) Sameer app. On Thursday, the air quality was slightly better with the AQI dropping to 279 at 7:05 am from 302 on Wednesday.
