On Tuesday, the weather in Delhi and the neighboring cities offered relief as overcast skies with intermittent rains flooded in as relief to the scorching heat that had been experienced in the last days. Low temperatures, which improved the situation to a great extent in the range of the National Capital Region (NCR), were caused by a sudden shift in the weather.
At about 2 PM, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has posted a weather warning in Delhi and the adjoining regions that include Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurugram, and the regions of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The warning was against an impending spell of thunderstorms with heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds of a speed of between 50 and 70km/h in the next two hours.
The IMD also pointed to isolated hailstorms, particularly in some sections of Delhi and NCR. A red warning was given to northwest, northeast, southwest, and Southeast Delhi, in which the probability of extreme rain and thunderstorms ranged between 2:15 PM and 4:15 PM on Tuesday.
This immediate fall in weather caused the temperature to fall to 29 °C. It is likely to increase to 34 degrees C later in the day. Even though the IMD has announced temporary relief, citizens have been encouraged by the IMD to be very careful and not engage in any sort of outdoor activities when the alert is on.
Moreover, there also exists a yellow alert in Delhi up to Thursday. This period will be characterized by light to moderate rains, thunderstorms, lightning, and windy conditions whose speed is estimated to be 50-60km/h.
The residents will be encouraged to follow the official forecasts, as weather conditions might change quite quickly in several days. Emergency authorities stand on duty to curb any weather-related events within the area.
