Delhi was once again seen wrapped in a thick blanket of fog. The capital was covered in fog since Saturday night, which became more dense on Sunday morning. Public life was affected due to the fog. According to the Meteorological Department, visibility was recorded zero in Safdarjung area, while visibility in Palam was around 350 meters.
Dense fog was seen everywhere from Akshardham to Nizamuddin and from Barapullah to DND. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a yellow alert on Sunday morning, predicting moderate to dense fog in Delhi. Officials have advised drivers to be cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.
Alongside the fog, Delhi continued to struggle with extremely poor air quality. The Air Quality Index stood at 440 at 8 am, placing it in the ‘severe’ category. In response, authorities enforced Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), the toughest set of anti-pollution restrictions, from Saturday.
According to the Meteorological Department, light clouds are expected to prevail over Delhi on Sunday. Winds are expected to be easterly and southeasterly, making the air less chilly. However, moderate to dense fog is possible in the morning. Temperatures are expected to range from 21 to 23 degrees Celsius on Sunday, and the minimum temperature is expected to be between 4 and 6 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Delhi stood at 5 degrees Celsius, while the maximum was recorded at 22 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the capital on January 18.
Safdarjung was the coldest area at 5.3 degrees Celsius, while Palam recorded 8 degrees. Lodi Road saw a minimum of 6.8 degrees, while both the Ridge and Ayanagar registered 7.2 degrees Celsius.
