New Delhi: In the upcoming New Year, Delhi is set to welcome three significant hospitals, enhancing healthcare infrastructure. Lok Nayak Hospital is launching a Maternity and Child Block, while Safdarjung Hospital plans to inaugurate a new Sports Injury Center with 150 beds. Additionally, the Delhi government is initiating three new hospitals in Jwala Puri, Madipur, and Hastasal (Vikaspuri), each with a capacity of 691 beds. Lok Nayak Hospital is constructing a new block with 1500 beds in a 22-story building, particularly dedicated to pregnant women and infants.

The current capacity of Lok Nayak Hospital is 2053 beds, and with the new block, it will reach an impressive 4000 beds. The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) capacity will increase from 83 to 400. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is also enhancing its facilities with the addition of 15 new dialysis machines in the new year.

Presently, AIIMS has 13 dialysis machines and 24 beds dedicated to kidney patients. Due to the increased demand for kidney treatment, there has been a waiting period of up to two and a half years for kidney transplants. The addition of new dialysis machines is expected to reduce patient waiting times. Furthermore, Safdarjung Hospital, which already has a 35-bed Sports Injury Center, is establishing another one with 150 beds and seven operation theaters.

This center, equipped with underwater treadmills, 3D motion analysis, and a bio-mechanical lab, will cater to athletes’ rehabilitation needs. It will also feature a water pool for aquatic therapy, aiding the rehabilitation of injured athletes.

The establishment of these hospitals and upgraded facilities reflects the government’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services to the residents of Delhi. These initiatives are poised to significantly improve healthcare accessibility, accommodate the rising patient load, and contribute to the overall enhancement of medical services in the capital.
