Officials said on Saturday that the interstate drug trafficking syndicate, which deals with psychotropic drugs, was busted in the capital and seven accused have been arrested by Delhi Police who seized about 48 kg of psychotropic drugs worth approximately 50 crores in the black market as their black-market value.

Police claim that the network was used to acquire raw materials that were used in the production of psychotropic drugs and distribution of illegal substances that were repackaged and sold without any prescription. The racket was widely spread and the operations were spread all over in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana. One of the coordinated raids enabled investigators to disrupt the supply chain that was extended to local distributors up to interstate traffickers.

The case was initiated in September last year following the receipt of a certain intelligence by the police about the transportation of a high volume of psychotropic drugs. On the tip off, a police force intercepted one of the suspects, Anirudh Rai, in Lajpat Nagar, Delhi, and seized around 2 kg of powdered Tramadol, a schedule I opioid under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. This was later registered as a case.

Additional technical monitoring and human intelligence showed that there was a broader syndicate. It culminated into arrest of Manoj Rai of Uttar Pradesh whose interrogation led to arresting of Kishan Pal alias Bhullar in Delhi. When Bhullar was searched on his home, 503 gram of Alprazolam was found.

During the probe, police detained Krishan Tanwar and then Manoj Kumar of Haryana after a short chase by the border at Singhu. Police officers found about 5.012 kg of Tramadol in his car. The following raids in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand led to arrest of two other accused, Parshant and Amit and the recovery of more volumes of powdered psychotropic substances used in the preparation of prohibited medicines.
