The Special Cell of Delhi Police has been able to crack down on an ISIS-inspired terror module and arrest two suspect terrorists who are said to be in the process of training fidayeen (suicide) attacks. The action was conducted after accurate intelligence information and well-coordinated raids in Sadiq Nagar, Bhopal, in Delhi that saw the arrest of two individuals, all named Adnan and all residents of Bhopal.
As it emerged through initial police investigations, the two belonged to the Islamic State (ISIS) and were in the process of preparing a big terror attack in Delhi. A large number of electronic devices, documents, and other materials that are incriminating were also confiscated during the operation. According to Police sources, the arrests have probably prevented a major terror attack in the national capital.
Pramod Kushwaha, who is an Additional Commissioner, and ACP Lalit Mohan Negi are the persons leading the investigation and are reputed to be skilled in dealing with high-profile anti-terror missions. The suspects are now being put under questioning to identify their broader network, potential accomplices, and how far they are linked to international terror organisations.
The preliminary results show that the module might also be connected to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in Pakistan, which is estimated to run some extremist organisations under the ISIS banner. The detained men are suspected by the officials to be part of a bigger radicalised group being trained and directed to suicide attacks in major places in India.
In the process, the police allegedly found weapons, ammunition and mobile communication gadgets that are undergoing forensic analysis by the forensic experts to date. In the meantime, the intelligence agencies will liaise with national and international counterparts in tracking the funding and digital traces of the suspects.
Delhi and the surrounding areas have increased their security level as the investigation goes on. The operation is a major milestone in the current efforts by the Indian counter-terrorism laws to ensure that international extremist groups that are active in India are destroyed.
