A 21-year-old man was arrested, his SUV confiscated, by Delhi Police after a video of the driver showing reckless driving behavior on a very busy portion of the National Highway-48 went viral on social media. The accident that caused serious questions about the safety of people happened on January 18 on the GT Karnal Bypass Road at Narela.
In the viral clip, a black Scorpio-N SUV that had tinted windows was seen driving in a dangerous zigzag manner on the busy highway endangering other commuters in the highway. Once the video had been flagged, the Delhi Police responded swiftly and located the vehicle that was involved. A police unit stopped the SUV not long after they detected the vehicle registration particulars.
The name of the driver was declared as Daud Ansari, a 21-year old Okhla resident. The owners of the vehicle are police officials who said the vehicle is registered to the name of his father, Musafir Ansari. In the interception, the driving licence of the accused was searched and taken into custody as one of the legal procedures. The SUV was also impounded.
According to one official, the police received the video seriously since the way of driving was a direct issue to the lives of other road users. After investigating the footage and other pieces of evidence, it was decided to register a case against the accused on the base of the sections which applied to the rash and negligent driving that put human life under threat. The Motor Vehicles Act provisions involving dangerous driving were also applied.
Strict measures according to the police officials were to be taken against any person caught engaging in careless driving particularly along highways with heavy traffic. They also encouraged the citizens to report such cases saying viral videos frequently assist the authorities to detect the culprits and avoid future accidents even before start taking lives.
