Delhi has a wider responsibility in the Indian healthcare ecosystem and should provide healthcare to not only its denizens but also patients who travel from across the country, said Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday. While speaking at a World Liver Day event organized by the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), Gupta emphasized continuing medical infrastructure and technology upgradation to meet increasing healthcare requirements.

“Due to Delhi being the national capital, this location has a special significance. We’re unable to restrict our services to our own citizens. “We, in India, have a duty to make sure that no person in India lacks quality healthcare because of the geographical or financial constraints,” said Gupta.

The event helped inaugurate the Integrated Liver Rehabilitation Centre at ILBS, which is a big addition to the capital’s medical capabilities. Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the center and praised the institute for its work in liver care and research.

Gupta also highlighted how strengthening of healthcare systems is possible through joint efforts and credited central government programmes like Ayushman Bharat Yojana for their positive impact. She pointed out that saying that Delhi was included under the Ayushman Bharat scheme meant that the underprivileged people are provided with treatment more easily.

Senior health officials and Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh were also present at the event. The leaders said together that the rising health burden of urban centers such as Delhi needs to be handled, and they also want continued investment in public healthcare, especially in such specialties as liver disease, where incidence is on the rise.

The CM’s remarks underline the development of Delhi into a healthcare hub, as India, not just its citizens, but as a whole.
