New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal addressed the issue, stating that the neighboring states deliberately supply less water to Delhi. The Delhi government has not wasted time as it went to the Supreme Court on Friday to seek additional raw water from neighboring Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh following the catastrophic water shortage in the country’s capital. Kejriwal outlined the status, stressing what needs to be done by the BJP-ruled states.
“If the BJP spoke to its governments in Haryana and UP and got some water for Delhi for a month then people of Delhi would be thankful to the BJP for this goodwill From the people of Delhi and other states The heat is something that no one can control But if we all can come together is there a way to give respite to the people from this?” Kejriwal posted on the social networking site X.
Due to water scarcity, the Delhi government has promulgated strict policies and taken stringent actions to replenish resources effectively. Such measures include banning water wastage, and those found wanting will be penalized a meager ₹2,000. Also, the authorities have said that there will be no water connection for construction sites or shop units unless they have legal permits to allow this in a bid to curb misuse.
The water situation has worsened due to the scorching heat, which has caused residents to seek their daily water supply. In several areas, including Vivekananda Colony in Chanakyapuri, the applicant has observed the men, women, and children climbing on the water tankers and trying to obtain containers. It is the same for Burari, North side, where residents such as Rahul Kumar are affected annually.
