New Delhi: A massive fire broke out Sunday night in a multi-storey building in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase 2; a shop manufacturing uniforms and a cafe near the Neelam Mata Temple were badly burnt. The fire has occupied the Delhi Fire Service Personnel (DFSP) for more than 10 hours, as they fight the fire.
Recalling the incident, SK Dua, deputy chief fire officer of the Delhi Fire Service, stated that to control the fire, which had spread to the three floors of the building, 23 fire engines were used. The fire was reported to Delhi Fire Service at around 11:40 PM of the previous night, and through the message, we got to know that Jung Cafe here was on fire, but on reaching the site, it was observed that fire had engulfed all three floors of the building, stated Dua, on Monday.
Fire Control and Rescue Operations
The fire started at the Jung Cafe, and within a short period of time, it spread to all parts of the building mainly because they did not have an effective ventilation system. This shortage enabled the fire to spread rapidly through the endangered building, damaging roughly 12 to 15 stores. To the peoples’ relief, despite the considerable destruction, there have been no losses of human lives at the scene. By the report from the fire department, they have managed a man rescued from the roof of the building. This person was working in an office on the terrace on the upward of the third floor during this fire incident.
Regrettably, one firefighter got injured while combating the fire. “Here there were a totally of 25 fire trucks,” added Deputy Fire Officer, “As for the loss of life, we have not had any reports of that for now, though we have managed to evacuate one man who was in the office on the terrace of the third floor,” One person in the team has been injured due to the huge fire.” The employed but injured firefighter is undergoing medical treatment and observation in the hospital.
