New Delhi: On New Year’s Eve, a 40-year-old businessman was found dead at his residence in Kalyan Vihar, northwest Delhi. The police confirmed that the man allegedly died by suicide, citing a hanging as the cause. The incident unfolded amidst ongoing divorce proceedings and a business dispute with his wife, raising serious allegations from the deceased’s family against his wife and in-laws.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh, the police received information about the incident on the evening of December 31. Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered the man unresponsive with a ligature mark on his neck, indicative of hanging. The deceased’s father provided crucial evidence, including a mobile phone, which has been taken into police custody for further investigation.

The body was transported to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital in Jahangirpuri, where it has been preserved for a post-mortem examination. “The investigation is ongoing, and we are examining all aspects of the case,” said DCP Singh.

The family of the deceased alleged harassment from his wife and her family, citing escalating tensions due to divorce and shared business ownership.

Parallels with Atul Subhash Case

The Delhi incident bears similarities to a recent case in Bengaluru, where a techie also allegedly died by suicide, accusing his wife and in-laws of harassment. In the Bengaluru case, the deceased left behind a 24-page note detailing his struggles, which led to an abetment of suicide case against his wife and her family. The matter gained further attention after the Allahabad High Court granted anticipatory bail to one of the accused.

The police in Delhi reiterated their commitment to investigating all possible leads to uncover the truth behind the businessman’s death.
