New Delhi: A 45-year-old man was electrocuted while he was hit by a car and allegedly dragged for about 10 meters In Connaught Place, New Delhi, as reported by a news agency on Sunday from official sources. The terrible event happened on September 4th.

The driver of the car involved in the mishap, whose name was given as Shivam Dubey, emerged as the main culprit, and he absconded from the scene soon afterward, although he was apprehended the next day. According to the police sources, Dubey hailed from Madhya Pradesh. He had allegedly borrowed the car from a friend in Mahipalpur, a locality in south Delhi, to meet a person in Connaught Place.

The fatal accident, police reports showed, happened at about 3:25 PM Wednesday. It is said that Dubey was returning from Connaught Place’s outer circle when the incident happened. He hit Lekhraj, a beggar trying to cross the Barakhamba Radial Road. A few people present at the crime scene, which include eyewitnesses and an anonymous official, said that Lekhraj was struck by the car and got trapped under the wheels. Still, Dubey allegedly drove the car further.

The force produced resulted in the victim being dragged on the road for about 10 meters. After coming to power of the incident, Dubey escaped the scene while Lekhraj was found badly injured on the road and had to be admitted to the critical care unit of a hospital in Indore. Motorists and others hurried the 45-year-old man to a neighboring hospital, where the doctors confirmed him dead as a result of the intense injuries he had during the crash.

After the hit-and-run incident, Dubey returned to his friend, who had lent him the car to return it. But fortunately, the police arrested him the following day and are looking into the matter. The case has provoked people to demand more stringent implementation of road safety measures and to seek legal action against reckless driving, especially in cities such as Connaught Place.
