With increased conflicts between India and Pakistan, the airports in 32 parts of Northern and Western India have suspended all activities temporarily. Despite the shutdowns at other airports, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) is the sole major hub not closed at all for local and international air traffic.
Closure details were formally communicated by NOTAMs issued by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and other aviation bodies. The closure covers major regional gateways such as Amritsar, Jammu, Chandigarh, Srinagar, Leh, and other airports. According to a news Agency report, all flights will be grounded till May 14, 2025, based on precautionary measures established as a result of elevated risks to security in the area.
To this end, Delhi airport authorities have issued a message to travelers to be vigilant and check in regularly for notifications from their airline companies. It also divulges the pivotal role travelers have to play in conforming to safety and baggage laws, given the new security measures and the changed airspace scenario.
Those traveling within or across Northern and Western India should follow the current flight information for guidance on their itineraries. In return, airlines will give passengers opportunities for re-booking or compensation as outlined by their guidelines.
Despite the fact that IGI Airport is open for operations, additional security measures have been taken to secure passengers in the airport. The pertinent authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and they will inform the public in case of any change.
The passengers are encouraged to exercise patience and understand the staff, as situations still remain unclear.
