New Delhi: The Delhi government has issued strict guidelines against private schools pressuring students and parents to buy books, uniforms and other things from a particular vendor. The government has made it clear that if any school does not follow the order, a case will be registered against it under BNS. The government also released a helpline number. The government has taken this big decision amid reports of schools pressuring parents to buy books and uniforms from the school itself.
Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood said that on the complaints of many parents and students, the Delhi government has issued new instructions to private schools regarding the sale of books, copies and uniforms. He also said that it has been observed that many private schools are forcing students to buy educational material like books, guides, ties, belts, notebooks, uniforms and bags from particular private vendors.
He said that all private schools will have to put a list of the books being taught on their notice boards and websites. If any private school is found hiding this information or misleading students and parents, it will have to face legal action.
Ban on changing the colour and design of school uniforms for 3 years
The order states that schools and principals will have to ensure that no pressure is put on students to buy any books which are apart from the syllabus under the board. If any book is being recommended for the next session, then information about it will have to be given to the schools in advance. Also, no school will be allowed to change the color design of the school uniform for at least 3 years.
Helpline number and email released
Further appropriate action will be taken against those not following these guidelines under the Delhi School Education Act, 1973 and BNS and BNSS. Parents are encouraged to contact the helpline number 9818154069 or email [email protected] to report violators. The government says that the Delhi government is committed to making education affordable and accessible to all. Parents are requested to report any violation to the helpline or the Directorate of Education.
